WEEK 32 UN TONGA, TU'ANUKU

Na'a Ma Kai Veve he Uikeni

Well dang, another week down.  It's blowing my mind how fast time is going! This has been a good week though!  First off because I got to talk with my family and my mom.  LOVED talking to them. Makes ya realize how fast time goes and how much I miss everyone!

We have seen a lot of growth in the area this week with a lot of potential!
We have been meeting a lot with the Ofisa Kolo (City Officer kinda like a mayor) who was baptized way back when he was 14 and the missionaries probably didn't even teach him (that happened a lot back in the day) and his wife who was also baptized way back then.  We've been having fakafamilis (FHE's) with them and their 5 daughters.  We are pretty tight with them and have some good hopes for their family.  This week he told us, why don't you guys just come every Monday and well eat and you guys can teach us.

This week we went again to the little family that I've mentioned before that we've been teaching.  We taught them the commandments hoping that that would be best to help them grow towards baptism. Lesson went good and at the end we asked if they've been able to think about our invitation for them, and she told us that they decided that they won't because her mom got mad at her for talking with us. Man that kinda got me down for a little bit.  We asked if we could still come over and talk with them and share little messages with her and she said that was fine.  We had fafanga right afterwards and while we were walking away I was pretty dang down on myself, wondering if I had done something wrong or if I could have done something better but when we got to our members house for fafanga, there was this girl there and we asked if she had talked to missionaries before, she said no, so we asked if we could share a short lesson with her.  We got to teach her the first lesson and leave her with a Book of Mormon!  Man its so true how when one door closes, the Lord will open up another. Talking about it later with President Makai, he told me that there will be a day when they will except the invitation, even if it isn't with us right now.  I know that for sure, they are such a nice little family and I'm glad we will be able to keep trying to help them!

We have been trying to help this couple who is less active but told me and my comp before that they want to go to the temple and be sealed someday.  One day this week we were at her moms house and she was there too with her baby.  We found out that her baby had been sick the past couple of days and her mom who was there insisted that we give the baby a blessing.  So of course, we did and then we left and didn't think too much of it.  The next day we ran into her in the street and she started telling us about how after we had given the blessing, her baby was all better and how grateful she was for it!! We hope that this little experience will help her and her husband in coming back to the church, especially because they just barely left it early this year.

AND yesterday we got to meet this kid who goes to the LDS school here, Saineha, but isn't a member. He even goes to seminary but hasn't been baptized.  We got to teach him yesterday and we found out that this kid is the MAN. We set up a baptismal date for him the Saturday before the end of the transfer.

Blessings on blessings this week!!

Random fact for the week: The 'Cliffs of Insanity' from The Princess Bride are here in Tonga. Haven't found them yet though.

34rd WEEK IN TONGA TU'ANUKU

Oku Sai!

FAM! Sorry I wasn't able to get anything out last week!  Our whole districts net was out and today everyone's trying net to on one computer! So quick overview of how things are going in the area!
Last week we were able to get a ton of teachings which is a big change from how it's been the past while!  We even taught a man on a trampoline!  We got 3 baptismal dates set up and one of them is looking way solid!  Shes our bishops little sister who has never been taught by missionaries. Our bishop is one of the funniest guys I've met here. He's only 30 and kinda acts like he's 18 sometimes. We had a way good lesson with them that ended up going like 2 hours because bishops wife and bishop both shared how they gained their testimonies of the Book of Mormon.  Bishop told us about how he decided to serve a mission: his family wasn't members but was nice to the missionaries and would let them do their laundry at their house, and he liked the way that the missionaries dressed so he decided to send in his papers and get baptized and now he's the bishop here, funniest thing.
We are trying to work towards a lot of less actives here but they always seem to have the best excuses or just not be at their house whenever we set up a time.

We are working with this kid who was baptized by his dad, but the thing was his dad didn't tell the bishop or anyone that he was going to do the baptism, he just went to the ocean and baptized his son with like 5 primary kids there.  The bishop told him that that doesn't really count and there have to be witnesses there and the dad got offended and they went inactive for a while.  So this kid went his whole life with his dad telling him he was already baptized and so he wasn't very happy when we came and told him we have to reteach him and do all of that.

We were driving with one of our members and he pulls over all of a sudden and pulls out a hand gun and says he's gonna go shoot a dog real fast and just goes running out of the car lol.
Last week at church the 3rd hour got cancelled because 1. Neither of the speakers showed up (so guess who got to speak:) and 2. None of the teachers showed up (so guess who got to teach:). Bishop wasn't to happy so he just cancelled the 3rd hour.

So last p-day my comp rolled his ankle and so this whole week we've kinda been on house arrest a little. Just the past 3 days we've been able to go out.

For real though, even if it doesn't sound like it, this area has been having a ton of progress the past while and the members are noticing it and doing more to help with the work!  I know that the promise that there is always 5 people ready to be baptized in every area is true, it just takes everyone to do their part and then we start to see the miracles!

Maybe someday I'll be able to type up an email without 8 people waiting behind me:)

I love all of you so much and am thankful for all the examples and support I see from everyone. Heavenly Father knows I need it right now :)
